Difficult Does Not Mean Impossible

Difficult Does Not Mean Impossible.

“One of the most common causes of failure,” observes Napoleon Hill, “is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat. Every person is guilty of this mistake at one time or another.”

Are you not?

The legendary Napoleon Hill told a story, in his Think and Grow Rich classic, of a man who was caught by the “gold fever” in the gold-rush days and went west to dig and grow rich.

As the man was prospecting and digging the ground with his pick and shovel in search of gold in Colorado, he discovered a shining ore, which needed some machinery for it to be mined better.

Following that discovery and the need of machinery, the man quietly covered up the mine and returned to his home in Williamsburg in Maryland, United States of America, to make arrangements for the procurement of the needed machinery.

While at home, he told some of his relations and his neighbours of his discovery, and they all gathered money to acquire the needed machinery.

As soon as the machinery was ready for use, the man and one of his relations named R.U. Darby, went back to work at the mine.

With the machinery, they were able to mine and shiploads of ore to the smelter, making them some of the richest miners in Colorado, at that time.

But after a while, the man and his relation discovered that the vein of gold ore had disappeared, which suggested that they had come to the end of their lucrative gold ore mining business.

They however drilled on, desperately trying to pick up the vein again, but there was no luck in sight.

Then, they decided to quit.

Darby and his relation quit because they seemed not to have heard that more gold has been mined from the thoughts of men than has ever been taken from the earth.

They also seemed not to be aware of Isaac Pitman’s advice, which says: “If you would get gold, you must dig deeply: it is not got on the surface.”

Not only did Darby and his relation succumb to the difficulty of picking up the vein again, they also sold their machinery to a junk man, at a price that was cheaper than what they bought it.

After they had gone, the junk man, called in a mining engineer to look at the mine and do a little calculating.

From his findings, the engineer told the junk man that the project failed because the original owners were not familiar with “fault lines.”

The engineer’s calculations further revealed that a gold vein would be found just three feet from where the previous owners of the mine stopped mining.

Interestingly, that was exactly what happened; and the junk man made millions of dollars in ore from the mine because he knew enough to seek expert counsel before giving up.

The mistake Darby and his relation made, a long time ago, is still being repeated by most of us, today.

When defeat overtakes us, the cheapest and the most logical thing that most of us do is to quit, because we seem not to understand the fact that failure is a trickster with a keen sense of irony and cunning.

We also do not understand that failure takes great delight in tripping one when success is almost within reach.

That is not the way to go!

The Way to Go When Things Become Difficult

One common truth about life that I found to be universal, is the fact that every task seems difficult the first time you undertake it, but as you keep doing it, it becomes easier to accomplish.

Have you not noticed this, too?

What happens in such a situation is not that the task gets easier as you keep doing it, but because you keep improving as you keep doing it.

What this means is that every task or goal that seems difficult becomes easier when we put in hard work.

In other words, it is hard work that makes a task or goal look easy.

So, don’t be discouraged or afraid when a task looks difficult to you, because with hard work, you can always overcome it.

Difficult, but possible task

Nothing is really impossible because we are created in the image of God, and with God nothing is impossible.

As long as you set your mind on a goal, and dedicate time and hard work to it, you can achieve anything.

If you say you can, you can, but if you say you can’t, you can’t, either.

“Difficult does not mean impossible” by Charles Michael Palahniuk, an American novelist and journalist should, therefore, serve as a reminder and inspiration for you not to give up when things seem difficult.

Life will continue to throw up challenges at you.

All you do is break out of your bubble, put in hard work, and fight against those hardships, and you will end up coming back better and stronger as well as even more intelligent than you were before the encounter.

When things seem difficult, that is the time for you not to give up, but to put in hard work until you achieve your goal.

The fact that things are difficult does not mean they are difficult.

Difficult does not mean impossible. THE END.
